Well folks, TWGT apparently didn´t read his invitation in its entirety. What we found when we arrived at the prefectura was the inaugural performance of the "Schiller" Collegium Musicum. Ooops.
And it was great. Albinoni, Vivaldi, Bach; (Grieg I could do without). We had a good laugh and at end I said it was the best talk on Schiller I'd ever heard and probably the best I'd ever hear. After that, a cap at my favorite cafe on the plaza, where I got to sit at a table of notable "regulars," among them a professor/economist, a news paper editor/lawyer, and a well known constitutionalist, brother to one of Bolivia's poet laureats. It was great fun to be amidst the smoke and noise and to watch these guys talk and argue and poke at one another and, of course, every now and again, at me. To get things off to a roaring start, I was introduced as a researcher/lawyer/señorita from "Yankilandia," and of course things went rapidly downhill (not a bad thing) from there. Appropriately, we ended up closing the cafe.
All of this to top off a full day of lunch with the wife of one of my father's friends, S. B'dof, followed by lots of copying of cases at the ngo.
This morning more copying of cases and, in a bit, off to lunch. Also got an interesting story from one of the cab drivers I use frequently -- told me how he spent 4 days in the Arizona desert with a "coyote" trying to enter the US illegally. He spent three months preparing mentally and physically for the trip and was the only Bolivian among 12 and then the only Bolivian among 5000 once he and the group were apprehended. Spent 4 months in detention in Arizona and LA before being deported back to Bo. Interesting what people will tell you.
Am happy to hear everyone is getting the cbba round. Of course, please look for another round once I get to La Paz. Much love to all. Hope you're well soon, K.
B.
