apparently not as easy as it seems

Hmmm. I just had a very interesting several hour coffee with a harvard anthro grad who has had a hell of a time getting in with the Madres. She's been "rebuffed" on a number of occasions and has practically given up on getting in to speak with them. Maybe I don't give myself enough credit? Or, maybe I was just lucky? Who knows. But you learn a lot. She's been here for a year and also found some of the better and lesser known academics less that courteous; we had some well-known non-responders in common. She's doing her main fieldwork too and will begin writing upon return to Boston in August, with follow-ups the following year. Apparently Harvard gives their grads summer funds to do that sort of thing. Must be nice! And it looks like (this late in the game) I may have found a BA running partner.

As always, it's good to talk to people -- you find some of the things you thought could only be wrong with you are actually part of the process overall.

Got two interviews tomorrow. One with the Madres and one with the Abuelas. Let's hope my luck continues.

B.
