Nomads

Aren't we a highly mobile bunch? This month many of us are either coming back from somewhere or going somewhere or in transition. I'm heading off for a few weeks in Bolivia, M & T are on their way to house shop in Fla., REC is Brussels bound, and AA has just arrived in Addis Ababa. AR, of course, is doing (field)work in India, and S & C practically just got back from a trip to NOLA. That's just to name a few. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm beginning to look forward to the day when I can just be in one place for a while. One more year, year and a half in Austin and it'll be time to move again! Nossa senhora da Fatima! as they say (sorry, I've been watching Rede Globo).

Anyhoo, news on this end is my visa is fast running out so I gotta fashion a trip to somewhere soon -- so to Bo it is for a few follow up interviews. I'm not too excited about it, but there ya go. TWGT has promised to put me in touch with an historian friend of his and some other folks and I suppose I'll try to get an interview or two from law faculty in CBBA. Ought to go to Sucre, but we'll see. Ought to go to La Paz, but that's highly unlikely as energy and, especially, $$ are fast running out on this end. I've discovered it's simply going to be impossible for me to get all of the data I'd like for the kind of diss I'd like. That would certainly be more than a year's worth of work and more like a career's worth of work. But I figure between the Benson, the UT Law Library, the PCL, and whatever data I do get, I should at the very least be able to pull together a dissertation (or so let's hope).

Are we supposed to be writing while we're fieldworking? I feel there's that expectation, but don't see how I can write on something I don't yet know. NSdaF.

What else? Fall has definitely hit here. It's cold in the mornings and evenings. Bought some Argentine hot chocolate mix and let me just say it's the first hot chocolate I've thrown down the drain (I was a little surprised; expected better from the Tines). Will purchase ticket tomorrow and take it from there, leave early next week sometime.

That's a Barradas, by the way.

B.
