Well, Folks. The day after. Bright and sunny. Yesterday it RAINED all day long, which was fine really. Purchased two celebratory bars of Toblerone and the makings of a fine dinner, which I didn't make. Oddly enough, Saint Patrick's day is celebrated here -- and with enthusiasm, 6th Street a la BA. I've heard it's one of the most celebrated days world wide.So a lot is going on here these days. In addition to yesterday being St. Patrick's Day (Dia de San Patricio and/or Noche Verde), it was the 14 year anniversary of the bombing of the Israeli Embassy. Totally destroyed and with fatalities. No one has ever been formally charged with the crime, though there is evidence to implicate Hezbollah and the Iranian government. There was a memorial in the rain and a silent protest. Also as noted previously, this coming week is the 30 year mark of the last dictatorship and so there seems to be (more than usual) a collective stock-taking and remembering going on with autocriticas and the like. Lots of talks and lectures and art exhibits. I should probably buy the paper version of the papers this weekend and week for supplements like the one you see here from Clarin, which looks interesting.
Finally get to see DS Monday evening and have been invited to hear a paper given by SW over at the law school. Dinner for Tuesday is off, which frees me up to carry on as usual. Plan for this weekend is to prep for the coming week and think through exactly what it is I need to ask DS for, as he's offered to help. Also need to start thinking of whether to leave the country or simply go through the hassle of renewing my visa here (what I'm leaning towards). Wondering too when the APSA announcements will be out. Am hopeful on the one hand the paper gets rejected so I don't have to go back to Bolivia for additional data, on the other, I suppose it's good for me. On the third hand, I'm not sure I have the funds to devote to the paper -- at this point fieldwork is top priority. I may have to reconsider and decline.
Anyways, there's work to be done. Guess, I'd better get to it. Hope everyone is well.
BT
