Dearest Friends:
Incredibly hot here. Last two days miserably so. Really should get out, but I'm not sure I have the heart. Need food. Need to drop laundry off. Need peaches and plums. Need all sorts of things. Ought to open the balcony doors, but I can't get used to having other balconies across the way from me with look-in-potential, not that there's anything to see except a hot, marginally preoccupied American working on financial aid essays.
In re the neighborhood: As a result of my tour the other night, I found out just down the street from me I have a tennis complex (where they're now playing some sort of national tournament, people milling around), the polo grounds, the zoo, and what appear to be infinite running trails (so I can stop running circles around the club de amigos, which was getting a bit dull). And there's also the race track, with training grounds for the horses and pavilions for entertaining, etc. Of course, I won't be going to any of these places, but it's nice to know they're around.
I guess the one thing I really do love about my little circles around the CdeA, is that I pass by the mounted police HQ and stables. For most of you I'm sure the sight of horses and that combination of horse-saddle-leather-sweat-sawdust-and-mild-poop isn't especially pleasant, but I find it invigorating -- a clean, fresh smell (clean stables, clean horses) that reminds me of endless hours spent training. One of the few things I was ever really good at and one of the few places (in the saddle, competing) I ever felt truly at home.
Ended up trading in Ghost World for Love, Actually (a less good, but lighter movie all round).
Listening to the How Long Blues. Looking forward to a run.
B.

Hey, B, I found you via A's blog and just wanted to let you know that I'm enjoying reading about your fieldwork adventures in BA while conducting my own. Cable? Internet at home? Wine? Those of us living in slightly less happy places are beyond jealous! Have fun!
