Books and good conversation

Two of my favorite things. And good food and good company. Okay, four of my favorite things. And all in one day!

Got to go down to the Av. Callao today to meet two of DB's friends, S and T (she's a novelist and he's a philosophy prof) and had a wonderful time. Didn't have much time to talk to T as she had a Spanish tutor coming, but S took me all around the Recoleta area, the cemetery (entrance to), ritzy streets, and beautiful parks and then treated me to a nice lunch and fun conversation on the terrace of a local cafe. Had a panini of sorts followed by an excellent dessert and, yes, a not so terribly bad cap. The company was great. A very nice guy, and funny too.

He also pointed me in the direction of a good book store (thank you), El Ateneo, which you see here. It's an old theater that's been redone and lovely inside. Most important, it has a cafe AND nice, clean, bathrooms. I had to put my hands in my pockets so I wouldn't buy the place out and thereby cut my stay in BA short. It's a bit cooler here today (hurrah!) and very nice. So I took the tube back, walked to my now favorite fruit stand and bought some more peaches and plums (which I'll pop in the fridge) in anticipation of a good run later today.

Need to write a dispatch up for the fellowship people and work on departmental financial aid, in addition to doing a lot of reading up on Argentina and Argentine politics. Spoke to DS yesterday and will get to see him when he gets back into the country, which should be a big help on the research front-- not to mention it will be absolutely great to see him again.

Don't know what's going on in the world. Didn't have the news on for a change, but it's next on the list.

Hope everyone is well.

B.
