Spent the evening reading and doing laundry. Just like back in the old Tulane days. Went to the scruffy little KwikWash just down the street here and enjoyed the experience immensely (will see if I can get a photo). South Austin really is much different from North/Central and I guess it's kinda growing on me. No one there but me and a hispanic woman and her two children, the eldest of which was playing video games, the smallest of which was running around insanely. Needless to say, I got to use my Spanish again. Spent the rest of the time waiting on my clothes and reading about clinicas de interes publico in Colombia. Excellent stuff for the diss.
Other than that, got a good dose of Austin. Debs and I met for a run (our first official, do the 3) and while we were doing our pre-run stretch, I asked a procedural question about the NSF. Debs didn't know the answer but the woman stretching next to us sure did and pipped up. Turns out she was communications faculty -- does that sort of thing all the time, and had just got an NSF of her own. Gotta love a town where you can ask a question like that and get an answer at the Lake (I'm sure there are very few other lakes in Texas where this would be the case).
As for the NSF, amazingly fussy, unnecessarily so (if the instructions weren't so thoroughly absurd, you might think lawyers had written them), and so it looks like DB and I will aim for the next target submission date, which is fine with me. I'm not too concerned, as I think things will work out.
Bon weekend.
B.
