Ciao Cochabamba, Hello Sucre

Hellloooooo everyone! Finally made it to Sucre and promise to have pictures up and running soon! Nothing but mayhem (well not quite) and I´m pooped. Tried to leave CBBA on Tuesday and there was a bus and taxi strike -- meaning the buses and taxis were protesting and blocked all roads to the city center and all major intersections and bridges -- we succeeded in getting to the airport only after my father paid the taxi driver to break all variety of laws (including driving against traffic) to get us to the airport (all sensible people were doing it too). We did reach the airport and we did leave on time. Since then been trooping all over Sucre looking at various apartments, touring the city, getting a sense for the place. Very colonial, very nice, but you do get the sense that the elegance and sophistication could go at any time. Today there was a very interesting ¨manifestation¨in the Sucre central plaza, mostly women and children.

My new home is with the Peruvian Consul; I´m renting a lovely (but small) apartment in the back of their wonderful old colonia home in the center of town, view overlooking a nice garden-courtyard. Sort of: Bolivia meets English country garden. WIll post pictures soon. Time up, gotta run. Miss you all. B.
